UAE Allocates Dh2 Billion to Repair Rain-Damaged Homes

In response to the unprecedented heavy rains that recently hit the UAE, causing extensive damage to homes, the government has approved a substantial allocation of Dh2 billion to address the aftermath. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktroum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The severity of the recent weather conditions prompted discussions during the meeting, focusing on assessing the impacts and formulating strategies for recovery. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the nation’s resilience in the face of adversity, highlighting the coordinated efforts of various agencies, including security, emergency, and local authorities, as well as the significant contribution of volunteers.

Acknowledging the pivotal role played by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the swift action taken to restore normalcy and prioritize the safety of citizens and residents. The President’s directives facilitated the initiation of efforts to mitigate damages, provide support to affected families, and assess infrastructure for necessary repairs.

A ministerial committee has been tasked with overseeing the distribution of funds and assessing housing damage in collaboration with federal and local authorities. Additionally, a committee has been formed to inventory the damage on infrastructure caused by floods and rains, proposing solutions and procedures at the state level.

Despite the challenges posed by the extreme weather, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the positive outcomes, such as the replenishment of dams and underground water reserves due to abundant rains. He emphasized the importance of learning from such experiences to enhance preparedness for future events, making the nation more resilient.

The government’s swift response and allocation of resources demonstrate its commitment to supporting affected communities and ensuring their recovery. Sheikh Mohammed extended gratitude to all individuals and entities involved in the relief efforts, emphasizing unity, solidarity, and love for the UAE.

In addition to addressing the aftermath of the heavy rains, the Cabinet reviewed the progress of the UAE Tourism Strategy, highlighting significant achievements within the tourism sector.
